What Can and Can't Go in a Dumpster in California
California has stricter disposal rules than many states. Here's what's allowed.
Generally accepted
Household junk, furniture, wood, drywall, flooring, roofing, yard waste, concrete (in dedicated containers), metal and cardboard.
Prohibited items
Paint, solvents, motor oil, batteries, propane tanks, asbestos, medical waste, and anything flammable or hazardous.
Items needing special handling
Mattresses, tires, appliances containing refrigerant and electronics (e-waste) are regulated in California. Riverside County runs household hazardous waste collection events for many of these.
